Labour Codes
Implementation starts with applicability, not a generic checklist.
The Four Labour Codes became effective nationally on 21 November 2025. Central Rules were notified on 8 May 2026. State-level requirements and the appropriate government still need to be assessed establishment by establishment.
Code on Wages, 2019
Wage definition, minimum wages, payment of wages and remuneration structures.
Industrial Relations Code, 2020
Standing orders, industrial relations, retrenchment and dispute-related framework.
Code on Social Security, 2020
Social security coverage and statutory benefits across the relevant workforce.
OSH & Working Conditions Code, 2020
Occupational safety, working conditions, establishments, contract labour and related requirements.
What implementation looks like in practice
- Map establishments and the appropriate government.
- Identify state rules and establishment-specific requirements.
- Test payroll structures and statutory calculations.
- Review policies, standing orders, contracts and registers.
- Build an implementation roadmap with owners and evidence.
Important: Labour Code implementation is fact-sensitive. This page is an overview, not a substitute for reviewing the legislation, rules, notifications and establishment-specific applicability.
